  • Gracious and loving God, we thank you for sending your life-giving Spirit to dwell with us in the community of Emmanuel Parish; infuse us with passion for worship of you, and for service to the greater community of Cumberland and beyond. Give us wisdom and perseverance in being a mutually supportive, inviting and inclusive congregation; and help us in all things to follow the example of him whom we call “God with us,” even Jesus Christ, in whose name we pray.

    Amen

    Welcome to Emmanuel Episcopal Church

Thank you for your interest in touring our beautiful and historical building. The church dates back over 100 years and sits on top of the hill that once was the site of Fort Cumberland. It now overlooks the city of Cumberland, Maryland. Some of the many treasures you will find are three 3 Tiffany windows, religious artifacts, a passageway that was once part of the Underground Railroad, along with historic photos and a diorama of Ft Cumberland.

We are excited in your interest in a tour. The docents at Emmanuel are volunteers and many work full time jobs. We generally ask 72 hours to respond to your request for a tour.  Request for a tour with less than 72 hours’ notice may be available but depends on docent availability. For larger groups (over 15 people) 2 docents may be necessary to lead the tour. The tunnels can be difficult to navigate.  For safety reasons it may not be advisable for those who have difficulty ascending or descending steep stairs. We advise against strollers and dogs (unless service animals). An individual may decide to participate in the first part of the tour and remain in the sanctuary during the tunnel portion.

Once your request has been accepted, a docent will be assigned to your tour. You will be contacted by email, please ensure your email and phone contact information are correct on your request form. Please contact us if it is necessary to cancel your tour.

There is parking in the Emmanuel parking lot off of Washington street.  Our docent will meet you inside of the church in the entry way. The cost is $10 per person over the age of 18. We look forward spending time with you discover our Parish.
