Life and Mission of Emmanuel
“It’s the Gospel!” At its core, our life and mission at Emmanuel is the Gospel. Our worship and the sacraments, our fellowship and family in faith, our engagement with the larger community, and our service to the world stem from and are grounded in the Gospel—the revelation of God’s love and care for humanity through the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through a variety of ministries, covering the gamut of transcendent worship and music to education to feeding the hunger to caring for creation, we strive “to do the work God has given us to do, to love and serve God as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord.”
As members of the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church in the Anglican tradition, we draw many of our worship practices from the Church of England, with its foundations in the Episcopal Church’s Book of Common Prayer. Similarly, we recognize—in the model of English theologian, Richard Hooker—the interpenetrating truths of Sacred Scripture, human reason, and sacred tradition as essential foundations for an individual’s and a community’s relationship with God in Jesus Christ. At Emmanuel, you will find a robust theology that respects the worth and dignity of every human person. Following the example of Jesus, we strive to offer a radical and unconditional welcome to all people, particularly the marginalized, the poor, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and anyone who seeks a deeper relationship with the source of Divine Goodness.
You are sincerely invited to join us as we strive to pray, to live, and to serve as Jesus would have us pray, live, and serve. Come worship and receive the sacraments. Come for fellowship and to participate in our family of faith. Come and engage with us in the larger community. The church is people following Jesus, doing the work we have been given to do. “It’s the Gospel!”
